Escape the fake!
That’s the slogan of the island! And it lives up to it.
This mostly sand island off the coast of Brisbane is well worth the trip!
- I highly recommend this visit be done with a tour company.
- Choose the tour company based off what you want to do on the island (search Moreton Island on the internet to see what is offered).
- Obvious tour companies include using places like viator and Expedia, however the Moreton Island website also provides some suggestions.
Take sunscreen, towels, water, snacks, and a change of clothes.
Once you are picked up you’ll be taken to the ferry launch area on the “micat” ferry. People 4 WD and camp over on the island. However, I recommend only an experienced person try driving as we saw several locals become stuck in the sand! It wasn’t pretty!
My favorite highlights were the clear bottom kayaks which you can paddle around the shipwrecks. I also tried out sand boarding which was a bit messy! Not for those who like to stay clean! Sand boarding requires a drive (a very bumpy, sandy, 4 wheel drive) deep into the desert side.
A great little paradise not to be missed! During the ferry ride dolphins and whales were spotted. The ferry itself is about 1 hour or so. There’s a cafe and restrooms on board.
I recommend this for couples, singles, friends, and children.
Due to the lack of other facilities I would not recommend for people with infants, unless you were planning on staying at the resort on the island (Tangalooma).
Be well! Until next review!
